Your correct.  Once you delete a state the live update may not work.  Even if you add the state back into Lotsoft, the program will assign a new state ID.  For example, Maryland evening draws has a state ID of 45 for the Live Update.  If I delete the Maryland Evening game it will also delete the 45 game ID.  If I add the Maryland evening game back into Lotsoft it will create a new State ID number and when you click the Live Update it could assign the draws to a different game or not update the new game at all.  It all depends what State ID is assigned when you create a new game into Lotsoft.

A fix for this is to copy and paste the p4.mdb file into the data folder of Lotsoft.

The Pick 3 was programmed differently than the Pick 4.  Ricky created an option of adding the state ID and also the code for the Pick 3.  Whereas he did not program the same option for the Pick 4.

Close Lotsoft if open

1.  Go to your Lotsoft folder  c:/Program Files/INW/Lotsoft/data

2.  In the data folder you should see a file "p4.mdb"

3.  Create a new folder called "backup files"

4.  Copy and paste your p4.mdb file into the "backup files" folder created above

5.  Download the following updated p4.mdb file below and place in the data folder

https://app.box.com/s/eakemwxu45zy4kz7hlhh

6. Re-open Lotosft > Pick 4 >

You should now have all the draws from 1999  through June 13, 2014 for Maryland.

Again those instructions only work for Windows XP.

Earlier today I updated the pick4 draws.  Here is the location on Windows Vista where the p4.mdb was actually written.  As I stated previously starting with Windows Vista and later programs no longer have permission to write to the "Program Files" folder.  Behind the scenes the operating system will redirect the file system request to the virtual store area for the app where the user does have write permissions.  In most cases you don't care that this redirection is occurring because its handled behind the scenes.  It does matter though if you try and manually swap files.

I have Windows 8 Premium installed on my computer

I purposely deleted the Maryland Pick 4 evening drawing

Opened C:/Program Files/INW/Lotsoft/data/ folder and the modified date/time to the P4.mdb file changed to the date I deleted the Maryland Pick 4 evening game

Copied a backup p4.mdb file back into the C:/Program Files/INW/Lotsoft/data/ folder

When I open Lotsoft 5 I right click and "Run As Administrator".

    Clicked the Pick 4 button

The Maryland Pick 4 appeared back in the list of available games.

Clicked "Live Update" and all the drawings were updated through 6/13/2014

Thank you very much winsum. I'm not as computer savvy as a lot of people here, so I'm usually a little hesitant to try something I've never done before if I think it might cause a problem with a program. When I do try something, I like to play around with it until I get the hang of it without causing any "damage". Thanks again...

This applies to correcting TN4 evening and Ontario Midday 4 draw history.

When you add a Pick 4 game to LotSoft the program creates an ID number.  For example, the ID for Ontario Midday should be 78 and only 78.  So when you click Live Update the text file data with Ontario Midday Pick 4 draws all draws have the ID=78.

                      Here are your options:

                      1.  If you have a fully functional version of Microsoft Access you can go to the data folder for Lotsoft, open the p4.mdb file, click tbl_states and manually change the state ID for Ontario Midday to 78.

                      2.  There is another FREE database program you can use.  Check out my blog post.

                      3.  When you open the database file it will require you to enter a password.  Enter the following:  {0,1}f(XP)

                      4.  Make sure the StateID for Ontario Midday Pick 4 is 78.

                      tbl_states

                      Or

                      Option 2

                      Close Lotsoft Pro

                      1. Download the following file from box p4.mdb

                      https://app.box.com/s/jybncd1mt55g92akq34b

                      2. Copy and paste this file in both of these locations depending on your Windows platform (Vista, XP, Windows 7, Windows 8)

                      C:/Program Files/INW/Lotsoft/data/

                      and/or

                      C:/Users/(your name)/AppData/Local/VirtualStore/Program Files/INW/LotSoft/data

Note: (your name) will be whatever appears as the Users

I don't know how to make these instructions any clearer.

Remember: If you add a state to Lotsoft it will generate a State ID number.  This state ID number MUST match the "Live Update" StateID number that is associated with the text file you are importing into Lotsoft.

Anyone that wishes to add a new state let me know and I will add it.

Run As Administrator will give the user the permissions to write to the folder.  Guess I will stop helping out.  Please do not send me any PM's in the future.

That's because I only took a screen shot of the bottom of the list.

State ID for Tennessee evening = 23

State ID for Tennessee midday = 56

If your database file contains anything other than these state ID's then when you do a Live Update your drawings will be incorrect or go into the state ID you have listed in the p4.mdb file tbl_states (table).

                              tbl_states 2
