last run up the rockets motors fired at $362M, its getting close now.  another 4 draws and we're there.  thats my estimation , then of course can it jump $200 in  a draw and not get won? we need another 3 massive jumps without being won. once those motor fire! good luck all

UPDATE: No winner in Saturday's 2/20/16 Powerball drawing for $212 mil (141.5 mil cash).

The annuity jackpot was increased $24 mil from $212 mil. $236 mil.  The cash jackpot was increased $14.8 mil from $141.5 mil. to $156.3 mil.

If there continues to be no winner and the jackpot grows at the current rate, it should take a bit longer than I originally expected to reach the $1 billion mark.

It now looks like it might be approx mid April , 2016.

Yes, the jackpot seems to be growing VERY slowly this time around.

With last night's strange combination of numbers, I can see it being quite some time before somebody actually wins the jackpot.  Who would have thought that 4 of the 5 numbers would have been within a 6 digit range?

I don't see it rolling to a billion dollars within the next 8 drawings (last option in the poll).

How many consecutive no-win draws are we at now?

Yesterday was the 11th straight no win draw.  At this rate, we would get to a billion plus after another 30 draws or so.  I would rather it not get there and have more people getting smaller jackpots.  I know that is not what the lottery commission prefers.

Thanks. This growth is somewhat slow, let's see how/if it jumps around 300M.

Maybe the billion dollar jackpot was a wake up.  It isn't smart to buy a lot tickets on a random number game weeks on end.  It just builds the pot for God knows who.  Get a few tickets and see what happens.  I'm still waiting to hit 5 white balls on any game-lol.

This run is still on pace to hit the billion dollar mark by mid March if it does not produce a jackpot winner before then. This despite the fact the cash rollover amounts have been somewhat stagnant for the last few drawings relative to the cash amount, though still on par with the last two huge PB jackpots.  Saturday's rollover amount would have been a little higher if not for the unusually high number of seven 2nd prize winners.

By analyzing the data in this chart you can see last month's billion dollar jackpot run needed five more drawings/rollovers from the cash amount this current run sits at to get to corresponding billion dollar jackpot. If the rollover amounts continue to get progessively larger as the pot grows like they always do, five more draws would taake us to March 12.

The current run is still well ahead of last month's record run. The next drawing will be the 12th of the current run, and the advertised  jackpot of $236 million is based on a cash value of $156.3 million.  That's not quite $2 million less than the $158 million cash value of the last run's 15th drawing, which was advertised as a $255 million annuity value. If this run had grown at the same pace as the last one we wouldn't be seeing that $156.3 million cash jackpot until the drawing on 3/5.

Figuring that the current $236 million jackpot is basically equivalent to the $255 million advertised jackpot from last month another 5 rolls would bring it well past $1 billion for the 3/12 drawing. If the sales for the next 5 drawings sell the same number of tickets as the drawings for last month and we account for the current cash value being about $1.7 million less we'd be looking at a progression of about  236, 278, 310, 492, 885, 1482.

We'd almost certainly see a different progression this time around even if the annuity to cash ratio was the same as last time, but I'll figure that the lower value of the advertised jackpot will mean sales are somewhat slower relative to the cash value. I also suspect that the final jumps will be a bit smaller, too, since we won't be in record territory this time around. Based on that I'm inclined to think we'd get an extra jackpot between 236 and the big jump past 400, and that it would take 6 more rolls to get past the billion mark. That would still get us there 2 drawings faster than last time around.

I would have to agree with you it might take an extra draw to hit that billion mark, because this runs annuity to cash ratio (over 66%) is similar to  last year's big pot. And it seems that these jackpots don't really start to take off until they cross that 300M mark.

Just an FYI: Assuming the cash ratio stays the same, if this run makes it to an advertised annuity jackpot of $1.510 billion it would have a cash value of just over $1 billion. For those of you with really ambitious fantasies it would have to reach $2.5 billion for somebody in a state with no income tax to net $1 billion after taxes.

If the numbers are ahead of the 1.5 bil run, why does it seem that the jackpot is growing so slowly?
