British pair get terror charges over Twitter jokes

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2093796/British-tourists-arrested-America-terror-charges-Twitter-jokes.html

Two British tourists were barred from entering America after joking on Twitter that they were going to 'destroy America' and 'dig up Marilyn Monroe'.

Leigh Van Bryan, 26, was handcuffed and kept under armed guard in a cell with Mexican drug dealers for 12 hours after landing in Los Angeles with pal Emily Bunting.

The Department of Homeland Security flagged him as a potential threat when he posted an excited tweet to his pals about his forthcoming trip to Hollywood which read: 'Free this week, for quick gossip/prep before I go and destroy America?'

The pair's luggage was searched for spades (shovels). LOL

While I don't know how Marilyn is doing, but I can say Congress has beaten them to the other objective, by a decade. Roll Eyes

Egypt bars 6 Americans from leaving

http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/01/26/us-egypt-usa-idUSTRE80P1QC20120126

Six Americans working for publicly funded U.S. organizations promoting democracy in Egypt have been barred from leaving the country, provoking angry demands in Washington that Cairo's new military rulers stop "endangering American lives".

Among those hit by travel bans - one of those targeted called it "de facto detention" - is a son of U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, as well as other foreign staffers of the International Republican Institute and National Democratic Institute, officials at the two organizations said on Thursday.

The United States said Egypt should reverse them: "We are urging the government of Egypt to lift these restrictions immediately and allow these folks to come home as soon as possible," [where they should have stayed] State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said.

If 6 foreigners were in America promoting Sharia Law, we'd ... Boxing at the first available chance.

renminbi, rials, rubles, rupees

Been reading a lot (for months) about these ex-dollar bilateral trade deals being formed.

Anyone watch enough tell-lie-vision to know if it's being put on broadcast?

Buffett's Burlington Northern Among Pipeline Winners

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-01-23/buffett-s-burlington-northern-among-winners-in-obama-rejection-of-pipeline.html

The rail option, though costlier, would lessen the environmental impact, such as a loss of wetlands and agricultural productivity, compared to the pipeline, according to the State Department analysis. Greenhouse gas emissions, however, would be worse.

Guess who it's going to be "costlier" to. But, at least no insects and spotted owls will be inconvenienced.

Dems want "Reasonable Profits Board" for oil companies

http://thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/house/205085-dems-propose-reasonable-profits-board-to-regulate-oil-company-profits

The Democrats, worried about higher gas prices, want to set up a board that would apply a "windfall profit tax" as high as 100 percent on the sale of oil and gas, according to their legislation. The bill provides no specific guidance for how the board would determine what constitutes a reasonable profit.

Not that this money would be returned to the consumer, just that the gov't would get to dole the money out to their buddies.

Do people realize how many products from foods, plastics, chemicals, medicine are derived from oil?

Keep harassing businesses and they'll go away. Halliburton might decide that Dubai HQ is all it needs.

Tiny Kamikaze Drones and a new gov't agency

These will only ever be used for noble purposes, like tasers, and only on the battlefield, never by a power-tripping donut-grazer. Blue Angel

Oh, wait, there's a new battlefield in town ... your town. Bat

Just a "training" exercise. Guess who was being trained. Roll over. Good peasant.

Here's a new agency ... created by decree, not legislation.

Saudi Arabia, China ink nuclear cooperation pact

With the money Americans spend at BIG BOX MART every day ...

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia signed an agreement with China in Riyadh Sunday for cooperation in the development and use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes, which will help to meet the Kingdom's rising demand for energy and cut its growing dependence on depleting resources.

Wanting to be left alone is "radical"

http://hotair.com/greenroom/archives/2012/01/19/rick-santorum-is-tired-of-you-people-wanting-the-government-to-leave-you-alone/

One of the criticisms I make is to what I refer to as more of a Libertarianish right.

They have this idea that people should be left alone, be able to do whatever they want to do, government should keep our taxes down and keep our regulations low, that we shouldn’t get involved in the bedroom, we shouldn’t get involved in cultural issues.

That is not how traditional conservatives view the world. There is no such society that I’m aware of, where we’ve had radical individualism and that it succeeds as a culture.

- Rick Santorum

Well, Frothy, not only do some of us want to be left alone, some of us want to be left the hell alone and are beginning to develop quite a 'tude about it. Chair

GOP's gonna have to do better than "Diet" Demon-crap ... or go the way of the Whigs.

Clearing houses the next shoe to drop?

In politics, nothing happens by accident ... -- attributed to FDR

"In an ideal world there would be a single global, not for profit, CCP (central counterparty) backed by all central banks," -- Paul Orchard, head of OTC Clearing at UBS

http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/01/16/clearing-default-idUSL6E8CD4AL20120116

So, it's "ideal" for fewer and fewer (unaccountable) people banksters to hold the levers on a more and more complex system. Yeah. That'll work ... for them. Cussing Face
