Ex-boyfriend charged with killing $5M lottery winner
The world, or at least a small corner of it, was hers a year ago. Doris Murray, mother of four, had won $5 million in the Georgia Lottery on her 41st birthday. She posed for a photograph with big ceremonial check at the Amba Food Store in East Dublin, where she had bought her winning lottery ticket. Columbus grandfather wins $5 million
A Columbus, Georgia, grandpa is celebrating a $5 million Georgia Lottery win. Prentiss Shumaker, 70, played the instant game Georgia's $500 Million Club and won $5 million.
Milgen Road Foodmart, located at 4254 Milgen Road in Columbus, sold the top prize ticket. Shumaker scratched his ticket in the store.

Mega lottery winners to leave 'check-by-check' days
Day three in the lives of Georgia's newest multi-millionaires began with a round of interviews on Monday morning television shows for the winners of Friday night's $270 million Mega Millions jackpot.

Georgia legislature wants lottery to crack down on bonuses
Lawmakers are moving to increase legislative oversight of the Georgia Lottery Corp. because of anger about the $3 million in employee bonuses the organization handed out last year.
The House Higher Education Committee on Thursday passed a bill giving legislative leaders the authority to appoint two-thirds of the Lottery Corp. board.
Currently, the governor appoints the board, which oversees the corporation and approves its budget.

A Delta flight attendant can fly the friendly skies as a new millionaire.
Kristen Diloreto of Cumming won $1 million playing the Georgia Lottery instant game Georgia's $500 Million Club.
The 40-year-old mother of three purchased the winning ticket at The Publix at 3480 Keith Bridge Road in Cumming. She scratched it in the car.

Brothers sharing $1M Georgia Lottery jackpot
With a few scratches, brothers Samoeun and Samoeuth Am have achieved a lofty goal only dreamed about by most Americans.
On Jan. 4, Samoeuth Am drove from his Jacksonville home to the El Cheapo gas station on Ga. 40 in Kingsland to buy some Georgia Lottery tickets. Among them was a Georgia's $500 Million Club ticket with a top prize of $1 million.

New Year's Eve lottery raffles from around the USA
In addition to celebrating the new year last night, lottery players from around the United States were checking their raffle tickets to see if they would start 2008 as a new millionaire.
Raffle-style lottery drawings were held in several states, including Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, North Carolina, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, and Virginia. Georgia Lottery launches talent search
The Georgia Lottery Corporation is searching for a new host/spokesperson for its daily televised drawings and to make special appearances around the state.
To find that special person, the Georgia Lottery has planned an American Idol-like audition at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center in Atlanta on January 7, 2008.
The Georgia Lottery Corporation will provide a broadcast pavilion for media partners to broadcast live from the auditions.

The Georgia Lottery board's decision to hand out nearly $3 million in bonuses to employees this year has lawmakers vowing to put new controls on the corporation.
