Boney526,

I agree. There really isn't a more delicate way to put it.

People like Stack47 are either true believers or are paid for their efforts here. If they truly are believers, they either experienced short term winnings way out in the right hand tail of an ROI distribution, or know someone well who did. Retired casino employees often start to believe in systems as a result of observing customers win with [E.G.] roulette systems, particularly the kind discussed above.

Even when presented with the skewed distribution of randomly generated ROIs that I put up recently, Stack47's thinking causes him to proclaim that there are ways to increase your chances of being in the right hand tail. Unhappy

It would be encouraging if believers would stop asking us when we are going to contribute something "constructive." If they stopped, perhaps we could assume they finally get the message that if constructive is defined as devising ways to "increase odds of winning," there are none.

All that can be hoped for is that a few curious readers here discover the wisdom of probability theory, which had its beginnings in the 1600's. Mathematicians at the University of Texas have a concise summary of these beginnings with Links to other interesting sites as well:

http://www.math.utep.edu/Faculty/mleung/probabilityandstatistics/beg.html

P.S. It really would be interesting to read a substantive explanation of just what people here believe the physical causative factors are behind a "streak" in, say, roulette. Smile

You are clearly ignoring the oblivious for the sake of being confrontational along with boney......

In short. INCREASING ODDS IN THE SHORT TERM is not only possible, it actually quite easy.

So easy, a buffoon could do it....................

I was comparing two distinct bets so whatever you think I was saying is irrelevant. What's the possibility of you ever adding something constructive to the conversation?

The last time boney bought lottery tickets I was playing with 10 times BETTER ODDS (on that draw)

This is an undeniable reality that I'm sure is quite painful for the selfish one to face.......

                No, it isn't.

That's called ignoring the reality of the difference between "long term" and "short term."

Sure you can win in the short term, but you can't increase your odds.  The difference between the two is that I can assure you you will lose in the long run.  I cannot assure you you will lose in the short run, because short term variance can cause you to be on the winning side.  That's not changing the odds (even in the short term) that's getting lucky within the odds.

If you COULD increase short term odds, and it was so easy a buffoon could do it, what's stopping you from going out and becoming filthy rich?  Why are casinos and lotteries in business?  If any buffoon could do it, then they would be doing it.

Thank you. Whats really sad is how they treat everyone like they are too stupid to understand that there is no long tern "statistical" advantage when lottery players are NOT even trying to get a long term advantage.

As I said before.... These guys could care less about the lottery............

Boney would make a very good politician.

Or a very good lobbyist for the NRA.

Ok whatever.  You can't change the odds ever, at any time, using any method that doesn't draw from physical biases that are undetectable on the lottery unless you commit a felony.

I'm saying you don't have better odds.  At all.  Believe what you want, but if you really think that you have better odds, you're living in a fantasy world.
