Fairly surprising considering the single draw probability was <1.5% and cumulative probability <4%, but that just goes to show how crazy randomness can be!
Anyone who played tonight had about a 1 in 59,000 chance of getting one of the $1 million prizes (given that the jackpot was hit).

Well I guess this goes in the "ya never know" category.
Now, someone here can correct me if I'm wrong, but the past year or so there have been some highly unusual jackpots won in Powerball and (before the MegaBall numbers were reduced to 15), MegaMillions. There is at least one Powerball jackpot I can recall where there was a jackpot winner and NO other tickets matched the first 5 white balls. That's jack crazy! There were I think at least 2 other jackpots in those games where there was a winner and just one other ticket matching the first five. So, conspiracy theories aside, I guess random chance does make anything possible.

To put the 1 in 59,000 chance in perspective:
The Montana Lottery is currently holding what amounts to a $1 million raffle. They are selling 135,000 sequentially numbered tickets for $20 each. Now they are also offering a few second and third place prizes, and some instant winners of smaller amounts. But last night's MMC draw wouldn't have been a bad thing to have 4 tickets (for the same $20) and about a 1 in 15,000 chance of one of them being drawn for a million.

True, there have been some unusual occurrences in the lottery. Off the top of my head I recall a few cases where consecutive jackpots were won, a skip, and then another won. People may identify it as hot, cold, streaks, whatever but in the grand scheme of the game they are just short-term fluctuations that average out.
I should point out that although the odds were 1 in 60,000ish (I don't have sales yet but thinking circa 900,000), or 1 in 15,000 in the case of 4 tickets for this particular draw, it is conditional on the jackpot being hit, which means it isn't quite the same as the raffle you mentioned. The reason is that the other 99 times (using 1% as example) a player has tickets in the draw or whatever, their odds are basically null (whereas the raffle odds exist from the start). So the actual odds were more like 1 in 5.2 million, before the fact. You have to adjust for the probability of a jackpot hit resulting in a secondary drawing.
I get and agree with what you're saying though. If you were a participant in last night's draw you had a pretty good shot at a million compared to other games.
If the chances of winning the jackpot are so slim, why play when the jackpot is so small? Your chances never change, but the potential payoff does.
If a crystal ball showed you the future of the rest of your life, and in that future you will never win a jackpot, would you still play?

Big bear29, thanks but it just shows how greedy we can sometimes be I love when the jackpots are low because most people dont play just like this monopoly game where it starts off at thats not enough money for a lot of people.

Not sure if you all know this or not, but there is a web code on your ticket. Go to your states website and put that web code in to be entered in for the millionaire drawing show in Vegas.

Congrats to all of the winners! It would be a blessing to win a million dollars. I've been playing this game since the day it launched and will continue to play. Good luck everyone!

The way the monopoly game is going you are going to have more than 20 to 50 people every month win a million , wow on top of that a chance to enter that losing ticket you have to go to Las Vegas with 500 hundred dollars free 5 days 4 nights all you can eat a chance to win 1million dollars all for five dollars .Please I love those odds.

I will take a million or 2 any day. It will make my day. Sure those giant jp's are great but not always necessary. You could always make do with a million. Or turn that million to 50 million it you got a way.

Oh I realize my comments on the odds were all "after the fact"!
I am glad for the 14 big winners triggered by the jackpot win. I would assume their raffle-style wins are a lottery first in terms of multi-state games in the U.S.
I noticed a few interesting tidbits:
Since Florida and New York each got three winners, looking at the codes, in each case two of the tickets only differ in their last four digits. I assume then the codes numbers are sequential?
Also, while last week the number of Georgia winners with the random property were near exactly 1/28th of all winners, this is not the case this week. There are more winners without the random property. I assume this is because of the non-quick pick bias with the smaller, all-of-them-can-be-birthdays first 5. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the NJ jackpot winner was not a quick pick.
