Boney, I meant to ask you this earlier. Serious question....
About 12 years ago I was sitting around with a bunch of 20 year old guys having a few beers when one of them, who acted just like you did, asked me a question. I knew the one who asked me the question for about 2 years. He thought that he knew everything and got pissed off when I corrected him on something. He said to me....you really think you're smart huh? And i replied by saying, no If I was smart I'd have at least 2 or 3 million free and clear in the bank. I told him that knowing a bunch of things, in my book, doesn't make someone smart, but having a lot of money is what counts to me. Knowing what the capital of Timbuk Tu is doesn't pay the rent. Of course money isn't everything that defines being smart, but that comes with living longer, having common sense, and having intuition, an eye for something and so on. Street smarts is the best education you can get.
Anyways, I asked him one question that he had no answer for. And this is the same question I'm going to ask you below.
How much smarter do you think you are than the typical 5 year old, or even 8 or 10 year old? You're 19 and I'm 47. I've got 29 years on you, so i can't even go back that far enough for a comparison between you and someone younger than you.
So the question is how smarter are you than a typical 5 year old? If you answered considerably, you'd be correct. And that's only 14 years difference. A 5 year old couldn't hold a candle to you right? Not because you're smarter than he is, but because you've experienced much more. When I say smarter, I don't mean in the way of knowing how far the sun is away from the earth, or a name of a river, I mean street smarts. Like If the house caught on fire, would he/she know exactly what to do in the correct order? Would he/she know to make asbolutely sure to look both ways before crossing a blind spot on a street? Would he/she know why it's so important not to run on wet ground in a swimming pool? Those little things add up as we grow. To the 5 year old, you're light years away. Remember, that's only 14 years, Imagine 29.
When I was in the Navy, we had officers come into our squadron right our of officer candidate school. it took them 4 years of intense college level training to earn that title. But there was a problem. I used to hear the Chiefs, master chiefs, and Senior chiefs who were all enlisted (Not officers), who were in the Navy for 25, 30 or more years having to take orders from some schmuck 25 year old officer who's ass was still green. The chiefs were furious because they were in the trenches so to speak. They knew their job inside out and could do t in their sleep, and here comes this hot shot kid out of school making believe he knows what's really going on.
If there was ever an emergency of any kind, I'd listen to any of those chiefs instead of the officers. Any day of the week !
