    Bertil,

First, there are 2 d's in my name, not one.

Second, I disagree with everything you said.  You are not only argumentative, but also dead wrong.  Wrong, wrong, wrong.

personally i never understand people who would rather have a computer pick the numbers instead of a having a ball drawing where you can see the drawing live and know your not being cheated......

        Hey Bertil,

I deleted your post because you're being a jerk.  I had no idea that you were that type of person - maybe you just never tried your crap with me before so I never realized it.  Do us all a favor and stop posting to this thread, because it is not a dumping-ground for your nonsense.

            Bertil,

I saw some of your posts in the math section and they should have been posted in the mythical  section.  You don't have to be a loony to post there.

              RJOh,

Sorry, I snipped Bertil's foul text from your message, because I don't want it repeated here.  That is the last time he will be able to post vile garbage here.

              BTW, your comments are correct.

Is there a 'master' table somewhere that shows which states and/or games are generated

                  electronically vs. mechanically?

This seems important enough that some folks would be willing to go "next door" to play.

If someone can take the time to carefully compile a list of states and the specific games within them that are computerized, I will create a new page here at Lottery Post and I'll maintain it as well.

I personally just don't have the time to compile the list myself, especially the part about the individual games that are computerized, because it would involve checking out every single game among the hundreds out there.

Anyone have the ability to do this?

Two ways computerized lottery drawing can be abused:

                      1) States know that lottery sales increase as the jackpot increases. So it is to their advantage that no one wins the smaller jackpots, so that the jackpot increases.

They could easily program the computer to make sure the winning numbers drawn were not picked by anybody.

                      2) The programmers of the computer could arrange for a certain number to be picked, and have an accomplice play those numbers.

I write this as a computer programmer of 27 years, and a specialist in high-speed databases.

                        Dunestrider,

Thanks for adding your thoughts — everything you said is very true.

The lotteries will swear up and down that their security measures would never allow this, but you and I both know that because there will always be a human facor involved, there will always be a way to break the security.  And when you break the security with a computer system, it's a LOT easier to cover your tracks than if someone were to try and manipulate a mechanical ball machine.

                          For all who are interested.

I recently wrote a letter to Texas Gov. Rick Perry and asked him to help stop the use of computers
in our on-line lottery games. The letter was sent to Lottery Director Reagan Greer. I received a reply
                          yesterday.

As expected, Greer said there are no plans to switch to computer drawings 'at this time.'

However, he said that the use of 'animated'  machines to provide drawing results to the media is
being studied. I got the impression its just a matter of time before that happens.

Greer said mechanic ball drawings would continue. The results would then be fed to the 'animated' devices.

I don't know anything about 'animated' devices except that one is used to pick the Megaplier number in the MegaMillions drawings. I assume its some kind of computer, that could be used for drawing winning numbers.

In keeping with my 'conspiracy theory" nature, my gut tells me that the animated devices will one day
                          replace the mechanical ball machines.

Also, Greer stressed that the 'animated' device used for the Megaplier will NOT be replaced with mechanical ball machine.

I hope Gov. Perry keeps his copy of the letter for future reference when Greer takes the next step in his plan to computerize Texas lotteries.

                            Bobby623,

Thanks very much for sharing that.  I think your instincts are dead-on.

I am very wary of "animated" machines, because although they will initially be hailed as a way to save production costs on the televised drawings (which they will indeed accomplish), they will ultimately be used as a way to eliminate the mechanical drawings without the public being aware.

Let's call these "animated machines" what they really are: cartoons.

Once the public gets "conditioned" to seeing the results as a cartoon instead of a live drawing, the lottery can essentially do whatever they want behind the scenes, and the public-facing cartoon will look like nothing has changed.

The use of cartoons to show lottery drawings is a very dangerous trend that should be opposed at every level!

Any regular reader of Lottery Post knows that I don't not subscribe to conspiracy theories, so I do not typically issue this kind of warning.  However, this is a really bad trend for players.

Keep writing to the lottery, and write LOTS OF LETTERS to all your representatives - Federal and State Congress and Senate, as well as the Governor's office.  Let everyone know what is happening, and don't let off on the pressure!
