$254 million Missouri Powerball winners on TV
Yes, I read the story on the Missouri Lottery website. Actually, the store had printed out some quickpicks in advance for the rush...Mr. Wilson took one of them and won with it. Seems like a good family... They did get legal / financial advice first, which was very prudent. Way to go Wilsons !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lottery groups
I have to disagree with guesser when it comes to signing the back of your ticket as soon as you buy it. Considering your going to be playing in a group. From what I understand lotteries distribute winnings to one individual, or entity. So by signing the back of your ticket with just the buyers name, in the lotteries eyes would mean they would be the only winner. I would leave it blank, and in the case that your group ever wins. I would seek professional assistance from a tax lawyer, certified fi

84 Year Old Wins $40M FL Lottery
Mmmm, I remember my grandmother had stopped paying income taxes after she turned 72. It's not like she didn't file or anything like that (which she did) it's just she didn't owe any taxes on what she had earned from the royalty checks she received from the gas oil wells on her land. That's also not including her retirement checks from her job and her social security checks! Heck man she was earning over 50K a year from all sources put together. To bad she was only able not to pay taxes for 3 y

PowerBall Drawing for 10/09/04

Should be interesting to see if they execise their option to remain anonymous. Of course, they will remain anonymous. In Delaware , they don't even have to set up a trust to claim the prize. The Delaware lottery can automatically grant the winners anonymity if they choose to do so. They'll definitely be anonymous if it was won i

Mega Millions Office Pool Advice
Quote: Originally posted by JAG331 on July 01, 2004Now, since this is my system, would it be legal to charge a premium? Such as, I get 50% of all winnings, and the other 50% is split among the 3 or 4 contributors? That is some kind of a office pool you're trying to get together at the last minute. I would have thought if you planned to charge a premium to the members, you would have come up with a contract and system long before the jackpot got so big. I once participated in a $400 pool in wh

NY Lotto: 25 years of ripping off winners
Tables are based on total possibilities of the draw, not on actual ticket sales. In a 6/48 game there are 12,271,512 different 6-number combinations possible. If one of each possible ticket is sold, one ticket will hit the jackpot, which pays $500,000, representing 4.07% of the amount bet. There will be 252 tickets hitting 5 of 6, each paying $957 (on average - these are pari-mutuel payouts, but the numbers come as averages from the Indiana Lottery Commission) giving a total payout of $241,164,

I'm thinking of starting a lottery pool
I don't think Facebook would allow it. As I pointed out earlier the people HAVE to hand you the money and you can not send ANYTHING through the U.S. Mail system. Here is the United States Code: 39 USC 3005 (a) Upon evidence satisfactory to the Postal Service that any person is engaged in conducting a scheme or device for obtaining money or property through the mail by means of false representations, including the mailing of matter which is nonmailable under (!1) 3001(d), (h), (i),
