After going to Vegas, Scratchers seem almost painless when you lose.  I think I saw a $1,500 swing at the Cosmopolitan in under and hour on Saturday.  Then again, it goes quick in Baccarat.  The only positive is that they comp your room service and minibar charges when you get whacked hard enough.

I could have bought a book with what I lost in 10 minutes.

Slightly surprised this happened since Baccarat is more of a coin flipping game where you bet on either player or banker (with 5% comissions), the payouts are even to the wager. Probably requires a high average bet on hand (each scratcher ticket is $5, $10, $20) or excessive wagers on the Dragon side bet can cause a loss of that much. Those games require a good streak in order to win significant money, then again anyone can go all in on a single hand too.

Scratchers is more of a volitile game where the odds of winning are much less than 50% but you get a chance to win multiple folds your wager since there are tiered prizes. I think Ultimate Texas Hold'em, Slots, or Three Card Poker (even Crazy 4 Poker) will fit that kind of play.

When it comes to gambling, Vegas casino games are most likely the better bet in terms of payouts/return, Baccarat has a house edge of just over 1%, scratchers have about 20-30%. Just takes more time/money to play in Vegas where as Scratchers are accessible everywhere.

Baccarat to me is all or nothing.  At $100 a hand if you are on the wrong side of Player/Banker, you can get waxed hard.  It was the fight weekend so all the tables were ratcheted up.  It was $100 or nothing and that's my game.  I play Blackjack and Craps too but wasn't in the mood for that this weekend.  I have had it happen both ways with Baccarat.  I was at Hard Rock once and I was basically comatose and barely paying attention.  It was a bachelor party.  So I must have blacked out but the dealer actually tapped me and I had $500 in front of me because I had let my bet ride.  The good ole days before everything was micromanaged the way it is now.  It's a check and double-check on everything.

I never play the Player.  Always Banker.  I don't bet the ties either.

Yeah, you got that right. Doesn't matter that the casino has only 1% house edge on a game, if you're betting big and playing a long time, hundreds of hands. You can lose a lot more money at the casino than if playing Scratchers with a 30% house edge only a few a day.

I play no commission EZ baccarat usually small tables $25 per hand, but if I'm up a several hundred  I'll increase that to $50 to $100 per hand. I move my bets around based on how the shoe is playing, don't just sit on banker. And I occasionally bet on Dragon, and have won a $1000 and a few $400 Dragon bets.(and one $250 Panda) That's always fun when it hits and the whole table screams Dragon!!! Banana

Today I tried one $20 ticket, one ca gold, and one ca black, and won nothing. Later I returned to the same store, made another identical purchase and won a $20 ticket and got the 10x symbol on ca gold, but it was only multiplying $2.00

I also tried the "insurgent" method some forum members described because I didn't have time to hang around the machine. I bought 8 high roller poker tickets in one bunch, numbers 67-74. I brought them home and won $6 on #74. So seven losers in a row to get $6 back from my $40 purchase.

Not my best day but I do like the high roller poker game. Unlike crosswords which I don't even bother playing it is a fun card to scratch.

Did the Lottery pull the $5 "Win It All" ticket? I think someone on this thread mentioned that the game was a major bust and only four of the 16 top prizes were claimed. It's not on the website anymore.

It's on the end of game info link on CAlottery website.  Retail sales end date was 4/18, altho I would guess there are probably a few stores still selling them.

The 9th (out of 10) $10 LFL top prize was claimed this morning

With the new LFL ones coming out this week, this should be on the End of Game list this June

I looked at the 2nd chance drawing page, they have a listing of a weekly LFL drawing where 1 person wins $5000. More enticing to play LFL?

Also, as a FYI, you may want to hold off entering the new Lucky Life scratchers into the 2nd chance system until the 27th.  Last month, I started entering the Bonus Crosswords before they started that promotion and lost out on some entries.

I am not sure the reason the CA Lottery does not have the website ready for these promotion as soon as the scratcher game is out. Not sure if they purposely want to reward people who pay attention to detail. I have seen all the warning signs ahead of time for each game to not miss out on any additional promotions (though I do not end up winning).

I reread the players lougne newsletter for the month and found this

These special drawings will be held once a week from April 27th to May 31st. Each week for five weeks, one 2nd Chance ticket submission will be chosen and a lucky player will win a prize of $5,000. These bonus draws are in addition to the normal Pool Draws and End of Game Draw.

I know Jon always questions the integrity of the webmasters maintaining the site, but I agree, its just getting ridiculous. The only thing I like about the new site is that it shows the remaining number of winning tickets for every prize tier.

Totally understand the approach to playing $100 a hand in Baccarat, the common person who do not gamble might think its crazy or high roller stuff. Those near break even games require high bets to order to win any significant money over a short period of time. Some people play the minimums so that they can get free drinks from the house and to kill time. Otherwise casino operators expect each table games to play 12 - 15 hands per hour, and at 1% house edge they do not gain much from minimum betters, and those guys do not get any of the good comps.

And of course it's in one of the poorest cities in CA:  Delano where the MHI is $35,608 compared to CA in general which is $57,287.  It's just amazing that so many of these winning tickets are located in these cities that are just deserted wastelands of poverty.  I know they play it more in certain areas but you have to "seed" the areas with the major prizes.
