If you were part of a lottery Pool that won..
Whether you contributed or not may be the sole issue if you chose not to and you're honest, but in the real world where there's a million dollars or more up for grabs it's the contract that matters. Even if there's not an agreed upon verbal contract there's an implied contract once you start the pool and offer people a chance to participate. If there is an agreed upon verbal contract, it's very existence strongly suggest the people involved aren't smart enough to have covered all the important d

Who' s to say...
There is absolutely nothing you can do to prevent somebody from claiming you had an oral contract to share a prize with them. As long as you don't offer to share a prize with somebody there is absolutely no way they can prove that you had an oral contract to share with them. The idea about telling people you are playing alone is all well and good, but offers no proof that you didn't decide to make an exception for some reason. Swearing an affidavit that you generally play alone, but would

How BIG can a lottery pool be?
Maybe you can educate us by telling us what the limit is. If so many people can join a class-action lawsuit against BIG TOBACCO, then a whole set of people can join a pool and buy the winning ticket off the hands of the original winner. Its being done now, it just has not happened with a BIG WIN yet. My question is can it be done?

Have you won a big JP?
Excellent questions Red. You have to be in control- its your money unless a winner does not view it so from the start. As for being sued- l don't think telling them they are lousy at what they do is considered grounds for a lawsuit. California is an At Will State you don't need a reason to let someone go, just as long as it's not based on religious views, political, sexual orientation etc. Unless you signed a contract with the attorney-pull the trigger if you not getting what you paying fo

Virginia scratch off-bar code doesn't match...
In CA, we have a secondary verification by entering the ticket serial numbers on the scratch-off replay program. If the ticket serial numbers are entered correctly but rejected, it means that the ticket is a winning ticket, not a losing ticket. But this mechanism wouldn't work if you have what looks like a $50 winner but in reality a million dollar winner, you give it to the clerk, the clerk realizes the mistake but doesn't tell you. He would give you $50 and submit your ticket to the lott

Where in the world is ??
I miss Rip Snorter, St. Germain, and Justxploring. Justxploring had one heck of a sense of humor, she once posted about a jackpot winner of the future becoming famous by winning a lawsuit about their right to remain anonymous. She also talked about a scratcher player's doctor telling them they scratched so much they needed Lanacane! Rip Snorter's avatar for a while was a depiction of Sissyphus, how appropriate for a lottery board. Sisstphus, for those who don't know, was a character

PowerBall finally may has the edge it's been seeking
Actually the way the clerk explained it to me, there was no customer involved. The previous clerk had just inadvertently hit the keys by accident, and presto, 5 easy picks popped out. No lawsuit here, unless the lottery clerk decides to change her story. This is all caught on video, I'm not concerned in the least. I'm also a regular customer at this supermarket, and pretty much know everyone there on a first name basis.

Do They Take (SS)FICA & Medicare?
If you've won a lawsuit and have trouble collecting you can file the judgment with the county clerk you can seek a lien against real property or have the sheriff seize other property, such as cars or bank accounts, so one of the government services available is clearly to have them act as a collection agency at the county level. That's really not much different than having the county loan you a court room, judge and jury to prove somebody owes you money in the first place. I wouldn't expect the

POLL - On The Whole Do The Lotteries Provide Truly Random Numbers?
Imagine the winning numbers were drawn before sales started and kept secret until sales ended, and the RNG only chose from 20% of the possible combinations. If the winning numbers weren't in that 20% you'd have a valid argument that the ticket was invalid and had no chance of winning. OTOH, if the winning numbers were in that 20% you'd be 5 times as likely to win. As a practical matter we could expect the winning numbers to be in that 20% 1 out of 5 times, and being 5 times as likely to win in 2
